Challenge

While drilling ahead at 6,230’ total loss returns occurred. Five other cement plugs had been pumped without success. Over 2,500 bbls of drilling fluid had been lost.

Solution

Poly Plug®

100 bbls of Poly Plug® was mixed in the slug tank and weighted up to 10 ppg. The pill was spotted through the bit with no returns. 

Results

Five hours after the Poly Plug pill was spotted, circulation was re-established and drilling commenced without further incident. The drilling fluid was weighted up to 10.5 ppg without any further losses.
